| I
am
writing from Papua New Guinea, and as I type I am listening to
the lovely throbbing of Pratt & Whitney radial engines
overhead. We live on a mission station in the Eastern Highlands
of PNG, and every 3-4 months the ADF Caribou flies over and
shoots several touch & go's on our airstrip. Attached are some
pix that I took several years ago out at our airstrip. It is a
delight to watch the airplane circling overhead and admiring the
long high aspect-ratio wings.

| This is our airstrip, taken from a hill overlooking from the south end. There is a cement run-up area at the uphill end for take-off. Elevation is 5,100'. We operate a Beech King Air, BN Twin Islander, 5 Cessna 206's and two helo's - a Bell Jet Ranger and a recently arrived Long Ranger. Our Aviation Dept. supports the needs of outlying translation teams all over the country on the "mainland" as well as the offshore islands. We use the King Air mainly for flights to Port Moresby and other larger cities, with the Islander and the C-206's taking the smaller and more remote locations. |
